The Birmingham Blaze was formed out of the GFSN, a national organisation bringing gay football supporters together...

The GFSN was founded in early 1989 by a small but dedicated group of Football Supporters who happened to be gay. This dedicated band went out to spread the word to the world that being queer did not mean an exclusive dislike of their favourite sport. From those small beginnings meeting as a group in the Salmon & Compasses in Chapel Market, North London, the national organisation began to grow.

Social groups of GFSN members meet regularly across the country, often taking over a local hostelry for drinks and good-humoured banter. Many of these groups also arrange trips to see games. Individual members can seek out like-minded souls that will even travel to the most extreme locations for a footy fix on a cold January afternoon after a drunken night before! Some even organise themselves into 5-a-side teams to take on other members, or even compete in leagues. Some still just play for fun.
